Obituary for Mr. Gilbert Hammett

Mr. Gilbert Hammett, 95, of Clearwater, SC, entered into rest in the comfort of his home, on Thursday, November 29, 2018, under the WONDERFUL care of Homestead Hospice, with his beloved wife of thirty-two years, Mrs. Myrtle Franklin Hammett, at his side. Born in Stapleton, GA and a resident of the CSRA most of his life, he was a son of the late Solomon and Lilli Belle Rodgers Hammett. He proudly and with honor served his country in the United States Army during World War II. When the Korean War started, he enlisted in the United States Navy, form which he was also honorably discharged. Brother Hammett was a fifty-one-year member of the John S. Davidson Masonic Lodge #677 F. & A.M. Augusta, GA and also the Scottish Rite appendant bodies. He retired from Georgia Power after forty-four years of service and was also the former Owner of Hammett Construction and was an active member of Woodridge Baptist Church. In addition to his wife and parents, family members include his children and their spouses, Bruce and Joyce Hammett, Sherri and Dean Antanokas, Steve and Melissa Hammett and the late Lesley Hammett, who passed away on Wednesday. Step-children and their spouses, Cindy and Ricky Waters, Sheila and Bobby Gable and Mary Saxton, ten grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.   The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 2, 2018, beginning at 2 o’clock at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Graniteville, SC. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 3 o’clock in the chapel, Pastor Tom Kalliokoski will officiate.  The brethren from John S. Davidson Masonic Lodge will give the Masonic Rites. At his request, Mr. Hammett was cremated and inurnment will take place at a later date in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC. The family has respectfully requested that no flowers be sent and that memorials be made to Woodridge Baptist Church. 401 Birch St. North Augusta, SC 29841.
